Safewise analyzed the most recent FBI crime report and put together this resource, which shows that Connecticut has an overall violent crime rate 42 percent lower than the national average. The state is lauded as one of the safest in the U.S. -- but its leaders aren’t sitting idle, continuously seeking ways to further reduce crime, the report says.
Lawmakers last spring passed House Bill 5743, the strongest hate crime legislation in the U.S., which State Sen. Gayle Slossberg of Milford said makes a "strong statement about Connecticut's values."
Darien (which comes in at No. 1 on the list) along with Ridgefield, Newtown, Cheshire and South Windsor all appear on Safewise's list of 100 safest cities in America.
